Meet Monica Karimattam
The MODDZ Collection is a small business, and I like it that way.
I’m Monica Karimattam, the woman behind The MODDZ Collection. I’m a medically retired United States Air Force veteran after 28 years of service, a wife, mom of three, author, real estate investor, and someone who genuinely loves luxury.
But I also love a good deal.
I’ve never believed that appreciating beautiful things means you have to be careless with money. I want the Chanel bag. I just also want to know what I’m buying, whether it’s worth the price, and whether there might be a smarter way to own it.
That curiosity eventually became much more than an interest in handbags. I began learning about luxury brands, their histories, the resale market, what gives certain pieces value, and even the psychology behind why we want these things in the first place.
I ended up writing an entire series about it.
My three-book Luxury Without Regret series includes Luxury Without Regret, The Beginner’s Guide to Luxury Handbags, and The Psychology of Luxury. The books explore luxury from different perspectives—from understanding handbags and making more informed purchases to looking at our relationship with luxury itself.
The MODDZ Collection grew from many of those same ideas.
I personally source the merchandise you see here. I look for pieces that are beautiful, interesting, useful, unusual, or simply too good to pass up. Some are nearly pristine. Others have been loved before and show it. I believe there is room for both, as long as you know exactly what you are buying.
That matters to me. When someone spends their money here, I want them to feel confident about what will arrive at their door. I believe in accurate descriptions, clear photographs, authentication, and being upfront about condition. I would rather tell you about a scratch than have you discover it after opening the box.
And while MODDZ is a business, it is also very personal to me.
There isn’t a giant corporation behind this website. There’s me. I choose the merchandise. I obsess over the details. I work on the website. I write the listings. I think about the photographs. I package the orders. And when something isn’t right, it bothers me because my name and my reputation are attached to it.
After 28 years in the Air Force, raising three children, building businesses, investing in real estate, writing books, and now creating The MODDZ Collection, I’ve learned that I don’t need to build something enormous for it to be meaningful. I want to build something good—a business I’m proud to put my name behind and one that customers feel comfortable coming back to.
So yes, I love the labels. I love the craftsmanship. I love finding a fantastic handbag.
But what I really love is finding something special and passing it along to the next person who will appreciate it.
